Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic who is subject to UK sanctions have been reported to be suffering from a suspected poisoning during the Russia Ukraine peace talks earlier these month.
The suffered symptoms of the poisoning includes red eye, peeling skin and sore eyes as it is reported that the Russian billionaire went blind for hours.
Though the 55 year old is said to be recovering from the illness.
Reports claimed that he suffered the symptoms along with two Ukrainian peace negotiator after eating poisoned chocolate during the talks.
According to Wall Street Journal, it is claiming the Russian hardliners are the one behind the poisoning as they wanted to obstruct the peace talks.
Even though there are speculation by an US official illness may have been caused by environmental factors, not poisoning.
BBC also report that an Investigative journalism outfit Bellingcat said Abramovich and the negotiators suffered symptoms “consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons”.
Former chemical weapons colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon claimed Abramovic may have been poisoned by mistake as the poison “had all the hallmarks of the Russian secret service”
“It does seem very strange their own negotiator Abramovich was affected. Either they don’t care about civilian casualties or it has been a poor operation.
“We saw from the Salisbury operation that the Russians are not as sharp and professional as you might expect.” – he addedThe Sun Newspaper
However, Ukraine foreign minister had advised anyone going for peace talks with Russia to avoid eating or drinking anything and if possible touching surfaces.
