The Blues’ headed for the game following an impressive return to the premier league in a 2-0 win away from home against Newcastle United at St James’s Park.
Chelsea kicked off the evening with a very strong foot against the French men and were rewarded in the 22nd minute.

The game returned to action in the second half and the visitors had the ball in the back of the net quickly through Timo Werner before it was ruled out for offside on the German.
The home side mounted pressure on Frank’s men, looking for the much needed equalizer, which eventually came with 5 minutes of normal time to spare. J. Guirassy netted a free harder from corner kick to bring the game back level.
Frank Lampard and his men had other plans other than settling for 1 point. After the equalizing goal, the Blues’ began to mount pressure on the home side seeking the winning goal.
In the stroke of 90 minutes, Chelsea won possession in Renne’s half and pushed forward through the middle by Hakim Ziyech before laying a wonderful ball for Timo Werner, whose low shot was saved by the Rennes goalie. The ball flapped but a second-half substitute, Olivier Giroud was just at the right place at the right time to connect a perfect header, beating the Rennes defenders in goal to seal the 3 points and secure qualifications for the knockout stages of the competition (round of 17).
The Man Of The Match performance was credited to Mason Mount, following his impressive display in the midfield once again, providing an excellent assist for the opening goal from Odoi. Chelsea fans were more concerned about the epic clash in the weekend other than the MOTM award. The Blues’ fans began to air their opinions of squad selection ahead of the clash of two London Giants on Sunday evening. 3rd placed Chelsea will play host to league leaders, Tottenham Hotspur in the weekend most anticipated clash.
A fan @retired_boyfrnd dates that Frank Lampard should start Olivier Giroud, Marcos Alonso and CHO (Callum Hudson Odoi) against Spurs. Odoi was fantastic against Rennes and some of the fans believe the youngster deserves to start Against Tottenham.
Giroud was impressive coming off the bench and netting the winning goal which sealed Chelsea qualifications for champions league knockout stages. Chelsea won Tottenham home and away in the league last season, scoring 4 combined goals from the two meetings. Two of those goals were scored by Giroud and Marcos Alonso, while the other two coming from the now Arsenal man, Willian. A decisive game which could see the Blues’ top the English premier league table after gameweek10 going unto gameweek11 against London rivals, Arsenal.
Do you think Frank should bench Werner, Ben Chilwell and start Giroud and Alonso!?. Considering Chilwell was fantastic against Rennes and Werner very much wasteful against the French men.
