Diego Simeone is positive that the goalkeeper will stay at the club because he is very important to Atletico.
But Chelsea is not relenting on getting Oblak, through a swap deal with Kepa who happens to be the most expensive keeper in the world but have conceded over 45 goals this season for Chelsea.
The 27 years-old Slovenia international has been in goal for Atletico in 37 matches this 2019/2020 season (La Liga). Appearing in a total of 3,306 minutes.
Jan Oblak concedes an average of less than a goal in all league games for Atletico this season. He has seen keep a clean sheet percentage at 46% (17 Clean sheet from 37 games).
Oblak is ranked as the best keeper in the La Liga with market value of about £80 million.
In an interview, when Simeone was asked about the interest of clubs (like Chelsea in Oblak), he said “I am not surprised because every year at the end of the season all our key players are under the radar of the most important teams in the world.”
“I think it is normal that they are always looking for best players as we have many in our team. In the previous season, some players left the club, others stayed but I think it is logical, that a player like Oblak is wanted by many teams.
He is our captain and a very important player. I hope he can continue with us because he is very important to Atletico Madrid.”
When Simeone was asked again about Oblak’s future at Atletico during the media call, Simeone replied: “I repeat the same thing: it is normal that they want a goalkeeper of his characteristics and value.
“It does not surprise me. He is decisive and important in the dressing room year after year. He has evolved in every way, as a goalkeeper and within the group.”
