Former Spurs ace Dimitar Berbatov is confident that Tottenham Hotspur can still secure a top four finish in the Premier League this season, despite their recent troubles
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov insists that all is not lost on Spurs’ chances of securing a top four finish in the Premier League this season.
After sitting pretty at the summit in mid-December, Spurs now find themselves ninth in the table after a run of three wins in their last league 12 matches, as well as losing four of their last five.
Following their recent slump, Jose Mourinho’s side now find themselves six points behind London rivals Chelsea, who currently occupy fourth, meaning their prospects of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for next season are in great danger.
Despite their recent woes, former striker Berbatov, who spent two years in north London, is still confident that Mourinho’s side can transform their current fortunes and secure a top four finish come the end of the season – but admits that it all rests on two key factors going their way.
Berbatov told Betfair: “Some people are saying that Spurs’ best chance of getting Champions League football next season is winning this year’s Europa League, but if you look at the league table, Spurs are six points off the top four and if they go on a good run they could still be up there come the end of the season, but only if they are consistent and they pick up the points and other teams drop a few.
“Let’s not forget they also have a League Cup final to play and it’s a chance to win a trophy just like the Europa League, but at the moment with Spurs, you watch them and think how is it possible that they can beat any team but also lose to any team.”
