Jeff played as Burnley midfielder after signing a three-year contract in 2016 and later in December 2018 he signed a one-year contract extension which expired on 30th June 2020. He became a top priority target for AC Milan and Newcastle probably for his ability to pass the ball successfully, tactical awareness and winning aerial balls.
The Irish international refused to sign another contract at the Turf Moor which finally makes Steve Bruce’s opportunity open up for a deal with the midfielder. Jeff speaks of his eager to play at St. James park as it is “one of the best stadiums to play” according to Jeff.
In his interview with Newcastle official TV Jeff said “it is a massive club and playing over the years, going to the stadium, it’s one of the best stadiums to play in, so I just want to get playing there.”
“I have had over 100 games in the Premier League but I want to keep going and keep improving with a different team. It’s going to be different for me, the demands with the bigger stadium, the crowd, how big the club is, so I’ve got to take that on and keep pushing myself and keep striving to get better.”
“I am looking forward to it, I can’t wait”
Newcastle manager had this to say about their new signing: Jeff is someone I admired for a long time. I watched him when he was at Derby, then he went to Burnley for a lot of money and couldn’t afford him, so I missed out then.”
“He is an experienced international footballer who can play across the midfield so we welcome him on board. He will be a big asset to us, on and off the pitch.”
“He is a great pro, down to earth and at the age of 28 it is a wonderful time to get somebody like him. It is the peak of his career, he is a really fit boy who has played 122 times in Premier League for Burnley over the last four years, and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the squad.”
