John Ogu, the Nigerian international midfielder showed utmost remorse for calling on his teammates in the super eagle to Boycott their upcoming African cup of Nations games in solidarity with the Endsars protesters.
During the time in the Lekki toll gate where unarmed protesters were shot, Ogu made a call while reacting to the shootings in the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday night, October 2020.
At this time, he was grieved, he said heart-hurting words like :
“What is the point in representing the country if this is what the politicians, the people we’re representing, can do to us? I feel like this is the best thing to do right now until they get back to their senses and listen to us. We want a good government, the police brutality to stop, we want the SARS to stop, we want the killings to stop, we want good laws, we want job opportunities. It’s just crazy.
I believe most of my colleagues understand where I am coming from, I wish we can do this. There are games coming up and if we boycott these games I’m sure they will know we’ve made a statement.
He said he is yet to disclose very well to go his teammates about this. All of them are shattered and feel for the people who are affected, especially the family, their loved ones, those that have died.
Ogu apologises for his comment on a statement released this morning, according to Ogu, he said;he made them in the heat of the protest and shooting protesters.
He showed remores continually for allowing words eat him up in everything. He sincerely apologize.
