Arsenal fans and the entire public have waited for a long for Arsenal to explain the reason behind Mezut Ozil’s outcast but nothing tangible has been said by Mikel Arteta or the high hierarchies.
Mezut Ozil who is currently under disintegration, hasn’t spoken concerning the reason why Arteta chose to carve him out from the squad.
Ozil last played for Arsenal in Match and since then he hasn’t kicked the ball for the London giant. Ozil has now come out of his total silence to reveal a possible reason behind his current situation.
During the hit of Covid19, the Arsenal board wanted players that take exorbitant wages to take a pay-cut. Three Senior players were closely concerned including Ozil who takes the highest wages. The report has it that Ozil refused to agree to the pay cut proposal with reasons best known to him.
“As players, we all wanted to contribute,” he told The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
“But we needed more information and many questions were unanswered.
“Everyone was fine with a deferral while there was so much uncertainty – I would have been OK to take a bigger share – and then a cut if required, once the football and financial outlook was clearer.
“But we were rushed into it without proper consultation.
“For anyone in this situation, you have a right to know everything, to understand why it is happening and where the money is going.
“But we didn’t get enough details, we just had to give a quick decision. It was far too quick for something so important and there was a lot of pressure.”
Ozil has been made to suffer for his stance having outcast from the squad without a possible return. It seems Arteta was displeased by Ozil’s rebellious attitude having failed to recognize Ozil has a player he needs in his team.
Ozil has suffered a degrading relationship with his boss but the former German player isn’t afraid to maintain his opinion on the issue.
“Possibly the decision affected my chances on the pitch, I don’t know. But I’m not afraid to stand up for what I feel is right – and when you see what has happened now with the jobs – maybe I was.”
Ozil may not be totally wrong if this is all that happened and the upshot of the matter should not be what Ozil is facing. It is a proposal that should have a two face- what are we going to do if these players didn’t accept pay-cut? What are we going to do for the player if these players accept this proposal?
Well, that is just an opinion but Ozil will have to wait until January if he will ever play for Arsenal again.
