Thiago Silva became a free agent after his contract expired at PSG. The 35-years old Brazilian defender and former PSG centre-back set course to further his career and challenge for honours in England.
Earlier in June, Thiago Silva caught the attention of some clubs in the Premiership such as Arsenal, Newcastle, Wolves when PSG refused to extend his contract after eight years of service.
In recent news AC Milan and Fiorentina kept close observation on the defender before Chelsea threw their card to deal and which is no longer speculation but a done deal as Thiago joins the Blues.
On Chelsea’s website, Thiago said “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea. I am delighted to be part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I am here to challenge for honours.”
“See you soon Chelsea fans and I look forward to playing at Stamford bridge very soon”
Thiago is a world-class defender there is no dispute but he will need to utilise his pace and strength due to the tempo and the Premier league style of play.
He is 35 and Chelsea still has centre-backs that are under 30s like Rudiger, Zouma, Christensen, Fikayomi but the wealth of experience Thiago holds will be a value to the leaking defense of the Blues.
Chelsea director, Mariana Granovskaia believes that the quality of experience Thiago holds will complement the bunch of young talents in the squad for next season, we can’t but agree to that.
Chelsea have been busy in the football market with the signing of Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malanf Sarr and now Thiago Silva.
We gathered that Kai Havertz will be announced in few days to come as Leverkusen looks to sign Kai’s replacement from Roma.
