Youri Tielemans record his name into the history books of the FA Cup final after scoring one of the most dramatic FA Cup final winning goal of all time, but many football fans felt it should have been ruled out as the goal was a controversial one.
The Belgium international unleashed an unstoppable 30-yard shot into the top corner which left Kepa Arrizabalaga grasping for thin air shortly past the hour mark.
Tielemans’ FA Cup winning goal was the only goal of the game which handed the Foxes their first ever FA Cup triumph but it was not without controversy, given the ball made contact with Ayoze Perez’s left-hand, via his knee, as the Spanish forward attempted to intercept a Reece James’ long pass.
Chelsea players, however, felt Perez’s controversial handball should have been reviewed by VAR and as group of Chelsea players surrounded referee Michael Oliver, imploring him to take action.
Why Tielemans’ FA Cup winning goal was not overruled
Former Premier League referee Peter Walton, however, stated that as the so called offence did not create the goalscoring opportunity immediately for Tieleman then it cannot be under VAR authority as the decision is on nthe refree’s hand.

He told BT Sport: ‘It’s a subjective viewpoint whether or not it was handball.
‘Personally, I don’t think it was a handball, the ball has deflected off Perez’s knee and just caught his arm. That in itself people may argue is handball, I don’t think it was.
‘However, VAR would not have not got involved in that incident because the actual goalscoring opportunity didn’t occur immediately when there was a potential handball.
‘There was seven seconds or so between that potential handball and the ball hitting the back of the net.
‘That’s not immediately and the law states it’s only an offence if the goalscoring offence happens immediately, so good use of VAR.’
