Tottenham will sack Jose Mourinho at the end of the season if he fails to lead the club to a top-four finish in the Premier League. Mourinho, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham manager in 2019, is fighting to save his job in north London following the club’s disastrous Europa League exit.
Tottenham won Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League game, but lost 3-0 in the second leg and putting an end to their journey in the Europa League.
Tottenham would face Premier League table topper, Manchester City in the EFL Cup final next month, with Mourinho hoping to get Tottenham their first trophy ever since 2008.
Qualifying for next season’s Champions League is the main task ahead for Tottenham, Mourinho will be fired if the club fail to finish this year EPL in the top four this season.
Tottenham was at the top of the Premier League Table at the end of last year but since then have come down to seat at the eight position.
Tottenham appear to have a favourable season but Mourinho has a great work to do, he would try all he can to secure a seat for his team on the top-four cadre, finish and perhaps save his job as their manager.
Mourinho’s long-term future at Spurs is shaking vigorously, the north London club have mentioned Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers as potential replacements for their head coach.
Speaking after Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League exit, Mourinho said: ‘If I forget the last minutes of extra time, where we did something to get a different result and go through, in the 90 minutes and first half of extra time there was one team that decided to leave everything on the pitch. ‘They left sweat, energy, blood. In the end they left even tears of happiness. Very humble and committed. I have to praise them.
‘On the other side, my team. They didn’t look like they were playing an important match. If for any one of them it is not important, for me it is.’ Mourinho added: ‘I can only apologise to the Tottenham fans. I hope they feel the same way I feel. Today is live or die – and in this moment, we die. This moment will pass, I hope we get our form back as soon as possible.
